It’s been a quiet offseason from me, but I am now very excited to be able to announce my run at the ALMS GTC championship. I know I speak for everyone on board with the team when I say that we are really looking forward to having a great year with the 66 car, kicking things off in Sebring, FL in two weeks time. More details to be found below in the TRG press release.
Petaluma, CA (February 28, 2011)- Following a successful return to the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron in 2010, taking two victories including at the famed Petit Le Mans, TRG will return in 2011 to the ALMS GTC category.
Beginning with the 59th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 19, TRG will field its traditional no. 66 entry for drivers’ Duncan Ende, Alain Li, and Spencer Pumpelly. Ende, who has been part of TRG’s development system since 2007, raced in three ALMS events in 2010 with the team, including the victory at Petit Le Mans. Joining the team for his first race in the series will be Alain Li. A successful competitor in several international series, Li will be running in his first ever Sebring 12 Hours and should be a strong addition. Finally, Spencer Pumpelly joins the team for his sixth season with TRG. Recently winning this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, Pumpelly joins the team as a proven winner, and will take an important role throughout the season.
With the conclusion of the official series test at Sebring, TRG is already off to a great start having posted the top time in nearly every session, including the top time of the event.
For Ende, the opportunity to take part in a strong championship bid is a something he looks forward to. “After winning last year’s Petit Le Mans, I wanted to come back this year for a true shot at the championship,” stated Ende. “Obviously the team is off to a great start after winning this year’s Rolex 24, and I really look forward to re-teaming with Spencer to make a run at the top this year.”
For Li, making his ALMS debut at the crown jewel of the series is an opportunity like no other. “I’m really excited to be part of the team for this year’s Sebring 12 Hours,” stated Li. “TRG has a proven history in this series, and I look forward to being a part of their program.”
For Team Owner Kevin Buckler, the opportunity to return to the ALMS with such a strong lineup is a great sign of the team’s return. “This promises to be one of our strongest season’s yet,” stated Buckler. “We enjoyed our time in GTC last year, and now I feel like we have the strongest driver lineup in the field, coupled with the best crew, and we have a great opportunity to really go for it this year. It’s great to have Duncan in for the year. He’s been a big part of the team for the last five years, and we hope to repeat our success together from Petit Le Mans. He and I want this championship, BAD. Alain Li is new to our team and showed strong pace at a recent test with the team. He’s a proven commodity from the other ranks he’s driven in, and I really look forward to welcoming him to our program. Spencer will of course do his usual top-level job of driving, and combined I think we have one hell of a line-up–this is gonna be good!!”
