Northern California area gives Ende much to look forward to
August 23, 2013 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – The penultimate round of the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge championships, held this weekend at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California, is one that Duncan Ende has been eagerly anticipating.
In addition to offering breathtaking scenery and great weather, the Sonoma area is home to some of the world best breweries and vineyards in the country – many of which Ende is eager to sample.
“I don’t want people to get the impression that I’m a drunk, but I do enjoy a nice glass of wine and a great craft beer from time to time,†said Ende. “We have a lot of both in southern California, but it will be great to spend some time touring Sonoma and sampling the best of what Northern California has to offer. With the way our World Challenge season has gone, I may need a drink or two at the end of the weekend.â€
Sonoma also offers Ende the chance to indulge in another one of his hobbies – riding his road bicycle. With a large road bicycle culture, great roads, and plenty of hills to be climbed in the surrounding area, Ende will be able to enjoy many hours of enjoyment aboard his Scott CR1.
“I have never been able to ride my bike in the Sonoma area, but from what I’ve seen and heard there are some incredible roads,†said Ende. “When it comes to cycling, I am more of a ‘sprinter’ than a ‘climber’, but I think I will be taking advantage of the great roads and hills in the area. I hope the roads are better than the IndyCar version of Sonoma Raceway – with the chicane and the neutered turn 10 – that we have to use.â€
In the midst of all the wine tasting and road cycling, Ende will also drive the no. 24 STANDD / Merchant Services in Sunday’s Sonoma Grand Prix, the thirteenth round of this season’s World Challenge.
“Yes, we will definitely be racing this weekend,†said Ende.
The Sonoma Grand Prix will be streamed live at world-challengetv.com on Sunday, August 25 at 2:00 PM ET and will be broadcast on NBC Sports on Sunday, September 8 at 3:30 PM ET.
