No. 25 Dempsey / Silicon Tech Racing Prototype Challenge car Recovers from Early Contact to Finish Third Â
July 8, 2012 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – Surviving the chaos of the 1.5-mile bullring at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT., Duncan Ende and teammate Henri Richard broke through to score their first podium of the 2012 American Le Mans Series season at Saturday’s American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix.
Starting from sixth position in the Prototype Challenge class, Richard enjoyed a clean start and made up positions during his opening stint – advancing as high as third before being put off course by a GT-class car. Ende would take over the car in fourth place in the PC class, but two laps down to the leading three cars.
Ende would circulate in fourth throughout his stint, staying out of trouble but pushing hard to keep his no. 25 Dempsey / Silicon Tech Racing PC car close enough to the leaders in case any of them encountered problems. When the third-running PC car was caught up in an incident in the final hour, Ende was able to advance to the final podium position.
“When I got in the car, we were two laps down to the leaders and making that up would be next to impossible,†said Ende. “So all I could do was click off as many clean laps as I could, stay out of trouble, and keep us close enough to take advantage if anyone had bad luck. Luckily we were able to move up to third when the PR1 car had an incident late in the race.â€
After a challenging start to the season for the squad, which is new to the ALMS, the Lime Rock result was especially satisfying for the entire program as teammates Joe Foster and Patrick Dempsey would also finish third in the P2 class.
“I’m thrilled that Henri and I are on the podium, but I’m really glad for all of the crew,†said Ende. “It is a great group of guys who work on our car, and they have had a pretty tough year up to this point, so to give them something to cheer about is a really great feeling. Hopefully Henri and I can keep this going and score another podium at Mosport.â€
The next race in the ALMS season schedule is the Mobil 1 Presents the Grand Prix of Mosport, July 20-22, at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. That race will be streamed live on ESPN3.com at 11:45 AM ET, and broadcast live on ESPN 2 at 1:00 PM ET.
