Ende sits eighth in the championship at the halfway point of the season
July 1, 2013 (Los Angeles, Calif.) – After a five-week break in the 2013 Pirelli World Challenge schedule, Duncan Ende is excited to get back behind the wheel of the no. 24 STANDD /Merchant Services Audi R8 LMS at this weekend’s GT-class double-header at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn.
His first World Challenge season has been an up-and-down affair for Ende. A pair of fourth-place finishes are the best results for Ende, who has dealt with a variety of mechanical failures – including engine and tire failures – hamper his championship efforts. However, Ende and his Audi have run well within the top-five and narrowly missed the podium on several occasions. The speed shown has Ende optimistic as the season begins its second half this weekend in Lime Rock.
“The one thing I have taken away from the first half of the season is that we have been very fast,†said Ende. “But for one reason or another, we just haven’t been able to string together the results we want. And it’s hurt our championship run. Obviously the Audi R8 has been performing really well, as my teammate James Sofronas has shown this year. So starting in Lime Rock we’d like to reboot our season, get on the podium, and build some momentum into the second half of the season.â€
Lime Rock’s short and fast 1.5-mile layout will no doubt lead to some extremely close and frantic racing with the combined GT and GTS field.
“The mixed class racing in the World Challenge is what keeps the fans so interested and excited in the series,†said Ende. “They are going to have a lot of exciting racing to look forward to at Lime Rock. It’s a narrow and fast track with limited opportunities to pass so when the GT cars start coming through the GTS field, there will be a lot of action. It will be important for us to keep the nose clean and stay out of trouble, but also to qualify really well to be as far ahead of the action as possible. There could be a lot of cautions and we don’t want to miss a chance to finish well if we are stuck behind the pace car.â€
Ende will also be competing in the American Le Mans Series race at Lime Rock Park, partnering with Bruno Junquiera in the no. 9 RSR Racing Oreca FLM09 in the Prototype Challenge class.
The first race of the double header will go green at 12:10 PM ET on Friday, July 5, with the second race going green on Saturday, July 6 at 10:35 PM ET. Both races will be streamed live on world-challengetv.com, while the race weekend will be broadcast on NBC Sports on Saturday, July 20 at 4:00 PM ET.
